KAPUAS HULU – A house belonging to a resident in Cahaya Embau Hamlet, Karangan Panjang Village, Pengkadan Subdistrict,
Kapuas Hulu Regency, was reported to have been completely destroyed by fire on Tuesday (March 10, 2026) at around 9:00 PM WIB.
The house belonged to Leman (80), a farmer who lives in Cahaya Embau Hamlet RT 001/RW 001, Karangan Panjang Village.
Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident, although the material losses are estimated to reach around Rp100 million.
Based on witness statements, the incident was first noticed by Andi Asri, who had just finished performing tadarus (Qur’an recitation) at a local prayer house.
He saw flames already blazing at the back of the victim’s house.
Upon witnessing the fire, the witness immediately informed nearby residents that a house was on fire.
Local residents quickly gathered and attempted to extinguish the flames using available equipment, including a robin water pump machine, while also trying to rescue the victim who was inside the house.
The fire was finally brought under control at around 11:30 PM after residents struggled together to put out the flames.
After receiving the report, personnel from the Pengkadan Police Sector, led by Police Chief IPTU Dendy Arif S., S.H., M.H., immediately went to the scene to conduct an inspection, collect witness statements, and prepare an official report regarding the incident.
Based on statements gathered from witnesses at the scene, the fire is suspected to have originated from a wood-fired stove used to boil water that was allegedly left unattended, allowing the flames to spread and eventually burn down the victim’s house.
Pengkadan Police Chief IPTU Dendy Arif S., S.H., M.H., stated that the victim has accepted the incident as a disaster.
Thankfully, there were no fatalities reported in the fire.
The police also urged the public to always be cautious when using fire for cooking, especially when using traditional wood stoves, in order to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
